BFC | BARBOUR REIMAGINED TARTAN COMPETITION 2026

Leo Hill-Daniel presented his winning piece for the Barbour X British Fashion Council Reimagined Tartan Competition for London Fashion Week 2026. Open to emerging BA and MA fashion design talent, the competition challenged students to create an original garment that incorporated and reimagined Barbour’s Classic Tartan.
Due to his success in the competition, Barbour invited him to present his Picnic Blanket Jacket alongside other BFC winners at their Reimagined Tartan Exhibition which was presented at the Saatchi Gallery, in Chelsea, London.
This project consists of a transforming garment, a Barbour inspired jacket that transforms into a picnic blanket, via a complex modular hardware set up. Leo embraced the utility found in Barbour’s heritage and worked with traditional wax fabrics. He spent time designing and transforming pockets and sleeves into bags and pillows as separate accessories for this piece.
He also filmed, directed and shot a accompanying fashion film titled “The Picnic Blanket Jacket” which can be found on Youtube and Instagram. The film displays the jacket in the scenic landscape of the Peak District, it also shows all the details of how the jacket transforms into a picnic blanket, inlcuding the pockets transforming into a modular bag.
